Covid Testing
What is COVID testing?
COVID testing can reveal whether you currently have or have previously had COVID-19. There are two main forms of testing, including:
Viral testing
Viral testing can tell you if you presently have COVID-19. This test involves a nasal or throat swab.
Antibody testing
Antibody testing may be able to tell you if you’ve had COVID-19 in the past. This type of testing involves a blood test, conducted via a finger prick or a standard blood draw from an arm vein.
An antibody test doesn’t necessarily show a current infection, as it usually takes 1-3 weeks for you to produce antibodies after getting sick.
Antibodies can help you fight the coronavirus in the future. But, having antibodies isn’t guaranteed protection, and experts aren’t yet certain about how long this protection could last. You still need to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Stone Oak Urgent Care & Family Practice offers these testing options to help you make informed decisions about your own health and wellness.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms of COVID-19 can vary quite a bit from one person to another. But, some of the most common symptoms are:
- Cough
- Fever
- Chills
- Breathing difficulties
- Body aches
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Throat pain or soreness
- Congestion
- Runny nose
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- New loss of your sense of taste or smell
This is only a partial list of the most common COVID-19 symptoms. If you have new symptoms that you’re concerned about, or if you’ve been around someone who has tested positive for the virus, speak to your health care provider at Stone Oak Urgent Care & Family Practice about COVID testing.
Who needs COVID testing?
Not everyone needs testing, but if you have certain underlying conditions or ongoing public exposure because you’re an essential worker, your health care provider may recommend it. You should also get tested if you:
- Exhibit symptoms
- Are in close contact with an infected person
- Engage in high-risk activities, such as traveling or attending large gatherings
COVID testing can give you an answer, ease your concerns, and help stop the spread of illness.
